Booking TipsIf flexibility when travelling is particularly important to you, you should always ensure you book a ticket that can be rebooked or cancelled if necessary. Remember that children (2-12 years old) and infants (0-2 years old) receive a discount of between 33 and 50 % on the majority of fares, while infants are normally entitled to up to 90%. Ask for these special fares at the time of making your booking. As a rule of thumb, the longer the period between booking and departure, the more likely it is that low fares are going to be available. On the other hand, remember that the flexibility of low fares is often extremely limited. Keep in mind possible seasonal fluctuations when booking situation your chosen destination. For example, flights to Australia leaving in December are normally booked up by May/June. Flights south (Barcelona, Nice, etc.) are especially heavily booked in summer, and the low fares will no longer be available. You should either book well in advance or switch to alternative dates. When traveling with more than one airline, choose the other partner airlines of your main airline wherever possible, since fares will be harmonised between these carriers. If you try to combine airlines from outside the partner group, fares can sometimes be very high. Wherever possible, choose direct connections, as this will help you to save on any taxes levied by the airport at which you change flights. As the airline industry continues to struggle financially, many carriers are trying to boost revenue by collecting more fees from passengers, so beware of excess baggage fees. |
